On the fresh-food side, one system maintains higher humidity than that of ordinary refrigerators and circulates the air to ensure uniform temperature. Foods stay fresher longer. On the frozen-food side, a separate system produces properly dry air that prevents excessive freeze/defrost cycling. Frozen foods last longer. Air never passes back and forth from refrigerator to freezer, so food odors from the fridge never invade the freezer.
Dual refrigeration is energy efficient, using less electricity than a 100-watt light bulb.
